That is an excellent and painstaking work by Gary!

Two people of questionable psychological stability locked in a fatal embrace, and neither with a shred of credibility. Yet bloggers insist on giving credibility to them by rehashing this sorry story over and over again. This has moved beyond being a cautionary tale into bad soap opera. Enough.

The difference being, as I see it -- Emma wasn't claiming to be anything other than someone looking for help. Jacob on the other hand, claimed to be a professional that could help her. Those seeking help should not be held as accountable as someone claiming to be a professional. If I go to a doctor and receive the wrong diagnosis - I should not be expected to know anything and in no way should be blamed for his mistake. Nobody can be blamed for Jacobs and him picking up the phone, other than Jacobs. Since he claimed to be professional the bad is his. Emma is making no claim about herself other than feeling mistreated by Jacobs, who is likely continuing to "help" people.

Gotta disagree on this one. If she were really seeking help she would have sought out a licensed and appropriately trained mental health professional.

She appears to have been looking for someone to either validate a delusion or give her credibility in the UFO community so she could cash in on her story. And as for Jacobs, he, too, was looking to cash in (visions of a book deal were likely dancing in his head all the while).

These two only validate skeptics who believe people in Ufology are either misguided or just plain nut cases.

Gotta disagree too. Emma was having problems and probably not thinking clearly -- that is obvious. Was she looking for someone that would believe her, likely so. Still the the patient can't really be held accountable no matter how bad the doctor she chose was. Nothing excuses Jacobs from making people like Emma think that he can help them and pretending to be a professional that can help them. People are always looking for hope and those that will believe them, they are victims. Others prey on those that they know will be looking.

Jacobs is not a mental health professional.

Unfortunately, I've seen this too many times to know it's true -- there are people who repeatedly make themselves victims and actively participate in their own victimization, which I think is the case with Emma. It can be a lifelong behavior pattern and affiction. Her alien abduction story is a red flag that she well could be one of these people. Her behavior with Jacobs is another.

I'm not saying she doesn't need help, I'm saying she deliberately sought out someone inappropriate to provide the help she likely needs. I'm not buying her "poor me" act.

That does not negate the fact that Jacobs puts himself out there as at least "somewhat" of a mental health professional. Also, if I assume that Emma is mentally ill in any way, that makes his continuation with her even worse. After all, this is not just one meeting or one phone call he has with her, but many. He had the control to not pick up the phone. If Emma does have a mental problem she may not have control over calling. I am not saying that in some way Emma may not have contributed. I am just saying that she is not the one actively seeking "abductees" to call and suggesting that she can help them. He was the "decider" in that case, not Emma.

Purrigurri, I am not sure why you think that I have not a shred of credibility. I have raised serious issues regarding Dr. Jacobs’ misconduct, and I have provided solid evidence for everything that I have said.

Your statement that I “deliberately sought out someone inappropriate” is pretty silly. My former therapist, who was a licensed mental health professional, made contact with Dr. Jacobs on my behalf, because Dr. Jacobs presents himself to the public as an academic researcher and expert in the subject area. Dr. Jacobs subsequently asked me to become his research subject, and he told me that I would be participating in scholarly research. He said that I would be a research subject of Temple University and he had me sign Temple University Research Consent forms. I had right to expect that my protections as a research subject would be observed. I am not responsible for his subsequent misconduct towards me.

Further to the above comment, Purrigurri, your statements that I was looking for someone to either "validate a delusion" or to give me credibility in the UFO community so that I could "cash in" on my story are likewise way off beam. The reason that I became Dr. Jacobs’ research subject is because he told me that he could help me to understand what was happening to me.

At the time that I first made contact with Dr. Jacobs, I had no idea that he would ever take me on his research subject. I assumed that he would exchange a few emails with me, and that would be that. As it happened, he took an interest in the research that I was doing on my own case, and he remained in contact with me. Two years later, he asked me to become his research subject.

To conclude in regard to purrigurri’s comments, I have never made any money from my experiences at all. I am publishing my research on my own case on my website for anyone to read, and I have no intention of publishing it in a book.

The only person who was writing a book was Dr. Jacobs. In regard to his book, I had no idea that I would even become his research subject during the first two years that I was in communication with him. Some time after he had taken me on as his research subject, he told me that he was writing the book, and that I was going to be in it. However it was never something that I was particularly interested in. After I had ended my work with him, he told me that he was still going to write about my case in his book. I subsequently withdrew permission for him to use my case in his book. Obviously, if I was looking for him to give me credibility in the UFO community, I would never have done that.

purrlgurrl I am sorry that I got your name wrong. On my screen it looked like the 'i''s were 'l''s, and I only just noticed it. Sorry about that.

I suspect, Emma, that persons so easy to effortlessly smirk with regard to your plight would sing a different tune if hazarded by the same sociopathy as you have been _proved_ to suffer.

Verily, I've had about enough, myself, of people who shout "enough already" or "message received, you can stop now," or my personal favorite, "You asked for it," when a demonstrated innocent is raped, intellectually or otherwise, and speaks up about it to her fellows publicly. Let's put _your_ shoes on _those_ feet!

Oh yeah! You'd see some "wailing and moaning" and real "gnashing of teeth then," you can bet!

Ironically, then, upon _your_ fatuous expressions of "enough, already" or "message received, you can stop now," or, "You asked for it," sans any redress for the conjectured persons abused sensibilities, at all, but the vocalization of that abused persons _righteous_ complaint, I submit you'd have to defend yourself with "sword and shield" from this "alternatively shod" offended!

Provoked myself, my foot pushes the accelerator to the floor, eh?

Additionally Let's talk about Dr. (immaterial) Jacob's _subsequent_ "research subjects," eh? Do _they_ get thrown under a psychotic's bus, too, when Doctor Jacobs gets his anxious little panties in a damp wad?

Thank you Alfred. I appreciate it.

I am sure that anyone who has been harmed by unscrupulous people in the way that we have, and who has had to deal with that, knows how hard it is. As you say, if we do not stand up the abuse, then they can just go on and harm the next person. Those that have not been in our position are the fortunate ones.
