Computer Stuff

No computer repair is ever as simple as they make it sound when I bring in my machine. I went to pick up my computer today, but it wasn't ready. He said he had reloaded all the audio and video drivers several times, but the same thing kept happening and they wouldn't work. So now it seems to be a hardware problem which he is checking and suppose to try to fix. I still have my service plan/warranty on the hardware so if they can't fix it I guess I would get a new computer. That is fine if they can manage to transfer all my software to the new machine otherwise that would be a complete pain in the rear. I actually have most of my files on disk, but it reloading all that software, assuming I can find the disks for it all would be really time consuming. That is always the thing that makes me put off buying a new computer for as long as I possibly can.
I also think I would like to complain about how bad the last several computers I have had are in comparison to my first computer. I got my first computer around 1994 (I think), it was a Packard Bell, which they don't even make anymore. I had that computer for over 5 years because I couldn't afford another and sure it had very little memory and was slow as hell, but I didn't know any difference at the time and it never broke or caused me any problem. It was still working fine when I replaced it. No computer I have had since then has even come close to lasting 5 years, with no problems. It must be all that new cool stuff we have, like cable internet. Some day I will tell the story of the early Art Bell Show bulletin board. Those of you who grew up with the internet probably won't know that term, but before the internet that is what we had.
