I wrote a historiographical paper on Crowley and the occult in my Turn of the Century Britain graduate course last year. Talk about one of your all time classic weirdos. Yet as odd as he was, his influence is far and wide. Wicca and other neo-pagan beliefs (which I have an affinity for) borrow from Crowley's writings, and lets not forget his influence on great rock bands like Zeppelin, Ozzy, and others.

Back in my early esoteric days I read a lot of his books. Some of them were just like drug induced babblings and some actually had some value. I don't remember ever reading anything in them that seemed very evil, especially not what you would expect from someone who calls himself "the beast."
