Some of this 'intelligent' CCTV is already cropping up in England in large carparks and industrial estates. It learns to recognise the normal flow and size of traffic/ pedestrians and flags anything unusual. Some of the larger houses in an expensive estate not far from here have a limited version or this that can distinguish a cat from a human wandering onto the property. How long will it be before it can recognise individuals and react accordingly?

They had some sort of facial recognition software they used at the superbowl a few years ago. My understanding is that it didn't actually work right, but I am sure they will refine it.
