I watched the Bush and Putin press conference yesterday and wrote a little post called Body Language Matters, at Lesley Land.
I meant to mention Art Bell's retirement yesterday, but I guess it is such a common occurrence that it slipped my mind when I updated. It didn't really shake up my world until I heard Noory and realized that I will be hearing him even more than before. According to Noory, he will be doing the first Sunday of every month now and that is "written in stone." He had the nerve to say that like people would be happy to hear more from him. I think it is doubtful that Ian will take over Art's show because he does his early morning local show on the week days and then he would be working 7 days a week with no sleep on at least one of those days. I am sure we will find out more about what is going on before this weekend.
Here are some good things I came up with about Art's retirement:
Fewer global warming shows
Less Ed Dames
None of his far right wing opinions or shows about them
My hopes for any new host that takes over Art's weekend slots:
If you are going to copy someone, let it be Ian.
Read your guest's books or at the very least spend some time at their website, so you know enough about them to ask intelligent questions.
Come up with your own questions and don't depend on whoever writes the stupid ones that Noory uses.
Listen to their answers.
Be polite.
Don't think that your audience is interested in you asking the same questions you did last time that guest was on.
Basically, if a host sticks to that list, they will at least be better than Noory.

Oh God...did Noort really say people would like to hear more from him?! What a douche.
My grandma can come up with better questions than Noory and she's dead.
No, he didn't say that, but he seemed to think that everyone would be thrilled that he was doing even more shows.
Oh. Yeah, I get what you mean.
Take it easy Lesley and try to keep cool.
It has been HOT lately. Still, better than cold.
Uh oh! George seems distracted enough already, he doesn't need more to do. Coast was never better then when Art first changed his format. The show has never retained that controversial quality since the initial attacks on Art happened in the late '90's. I think a competing entity will come along and have its time very soon, and not Rense.
You are right. From what I can tell Noory has more than he can handle already.
I would hope that some competing entity would come along. There are certainly plenty of good shows already on the internet that could be given a chance on the radio. However, since Clear Channel is the biggest radio provider, I don't know how easy it would be to compete with them, or if they would be willing to give another such show a try if it might compete with c2c.
This is why I usually stay away from online babble posts (so why am I here? Hypocricy I guess). People who are so-called fans of said topic, Coast to Coast in this case, spend all their time bitching about how much everything sucks. Noory sucks. Punnett sucks. The questions suck. The format sucks. The topics suck. Bitch, bitch, bitch. My God, get a freakin life people. Expect perfection at every turn and you're doomed to terminal dissapointment.
First off, you will never ever find me bitching about Ian Punnett, nor probably anyone else who posts here.
I don't expect perfection, I expect a host to know a little something about the guest. Not to rely on prewritten question from some producer that much of the time are not even relevant to the topic. There are only so many times I hear Loren Coleman be asked if dinosaurs still roam the earth before it becomes boring.
Anyone can sit there and read prewritten questions, it takes no talent. Ian actually reads the guest's books and such, he doesn't rely on prewritten questions, but comes up with his own more interesting ones and his show is great.
It is better to expect mediocrity and below because that way you won't be disappointed, is that what you are saying?
Points well taken. My problem is that whenever I visit these types of posts, the negativity is often so damn overwhelming that I wonder why these people even bother listening to C2C, or listening to a certain band or artist, or watching a certain program or whatever. Personally, I enjoy Noory as the host. He has his flaws, but I don't think his questions are bad for the most part. After all, how can you take C2C too seriously anyway, when guests come on talking about reptoid aliens and being a reincarnated Adam, and other callers claim to be the son of Satan? I mean, come on, most of this is pure entertainment. I don't look for mediocrity, but too much negativity is just depressing.
I skip most of c2c week night shows and only pick the ones that I am pretty sure I will like to listen to. I like the guests that are entertaining no matter what, like David Icke. A lot of it has to do with the guests too, it isn't just Noory. Having said that, I have heard guests that were boring with Noory be totally entertaining with Ian, so the host matters a lot too.
I don't want too be hard on Noory. In the past I have tried to support him against his critics, but he seems different lately or I am just bored with the repeating guests and hearing the same questions they were asked last time. I don't find him so irritating when I only listen a couple times a week. Sometimes I even find him entertaining! He has his good points, like having Alex Jones on and being funny when he gets all outraged about things.
Well said.
