I was at the grocery yesterday and noticed the chili roasting machine was out front! They weren't actually roasting chili when I was there, but I arrived rather late. Those of you in other parts of the country have no idea how crazy we are about our delicious green chili crop every year. Last year was really awful because we got too much rain and it ruined a lot of the chili crops. I only managed to get a few small bags to freeze and that had to last the entire year (of course, they didn't). They do sell green chili at the grocery all year, but it is from California, any New Mexican will tell you that Cal Chili sucks. In fact, if it isn't green chili from Hatch, New Mexico -- we don't want it. Yes, I am NM green chili crazy and I will probably be at the grocery tomorrow, buying the first of several 10 lb bags to freeze for the year. BTW, I do like red chili too, but not as much as green.Since I was concentrating on Richard Dolan in c2c rewind yesterday, I forgot to mention that Saturday night Ian Punnett did an awesome first hour with Jim Marrs.

The smell of roasting green chili is a sure sign to me that Fall is not to far away. Love it.
So far most of the Chili has been mild.
On Punnett and Marrs... Thanks, I likely won't know if anything's good over there unless you say so. So if I miss something good? It's _your_ fault! [g].

Crow - Doesn't green chili roasting smell a lot like certain weed that people smoke? It does to me, not that I know what that weed smells like. :-)
Al - Speaking of which, Brad Steiger will be the guest on Tuesday and I think that should be a pretty good show.
Ian really wanted Jim on for a full show. He seemed to have really enjoyed the new book and have lots of questions. It sounded like he has to make sure that Noory doesn't want him on before he can invite him. I would much rather he be on with Ian who actually read the book.
A roasted chili machine?! We get fresh chili and sun dried chili in jars, but I fear I'm missing out on something there. I'll have to see if I can get hold of some NM chili. Ever tried green chili with dark plain chocolate? Sounds wrong but tastes good!
I have had chocolate covered chili and it is pretty good. The new thing around here seems to be chili on a stick. They take a roasted, peeled chili, stuff it with cheese, dip it in batter and deep fry it. I haven't actually tried it yet, but I plan to next time I come across someone selling it.
If you do a google search for Hatch chili you will find many farms that ship chili out of state. I am not sure if they are allowed to ship out of country since there are often restrictions on fruits and veggies.
