My partner and I and my two children spent the night in Point Pleasant, WV on Columbus Day weekend last month. We were headed to Ohio to visit a son in college. We went to Point Pleasant because it was near Halloween and I thought it might be a fun trip to go on since they had seen the movie. We stayed at the Lowes hotel and went to the Mothman Museum. It was starting to get dark and I wanted to go out to the bunkers while it was still light so we would have an idea where to go when it was dark...well, it began to get dark while we were there looking for the markers the guy at the museum told us he'd heard about. I must point out that the locals don't go there. Anyway, we found the marker and followed the trail to one of the bunkers that had been broken into. My 14 year old and I went in and videotaped. It was getting pretty dark when we started to head further down the trail to look for another bunker and before we knew it we were set upon by a horrible sound. We began to run back to our car as it continued after us. Not one of us dared to look back...even when I screamed that I had lost my shoe. We all got safely in the car and took off. I screamed for my partner to stop the car so we could listen out the window...the kids were yelling "no", but we needed to listen...and sure enough, it was still following us. We drove back into town, in disbelief. We stopped in a Dollar General store to try to find a shoe to replace my lost one and called my son at college to tell him what had happened and to look up the crane that some think was the mothman or any other native animal and find their call. He called us back as he found them and he played them for us to hear but not one of them matched. The folks at the diner in town, across from the hotel, believed our story. They had either seen it way back when, or knew someone who did. Back here in the suburbs of Washington D.C. where we live, people think we are joking. We don't tell too many people. We plan to go back. I just hope I haven't traumatized my kids for life. Something isn't right out there at that site...
