Nick and Dana - A Love Story

Who would have thought that Nick Redfern was a romantic? As I read more of his book Memoirs of a Monster Hunter yesterday, I was convinced of it. He is totally smitten with his wife Dana, as it should be. Being a woman who also has a great guy, I know how lucky Dana is. I can also tell by reading about Dana that Nick is damn lucky as well. Do I have more respect for someone who loves their wife so much? Indeed, I do. I honestly believe that love, trust and sharing life with someone is really what makes life worth living and in a way makes for more happy and honest people. Yes, I know that probably sounds rather right wing.
Of course, I did read more than that. I read a nice interview with one of my other favorite people, Linda Godfrey, about the Michigan Dogman. I also learned more about the Texas Wild Woman. Aren't all women from Texas wild? :-) Yeah, and the men too.
I read that while waiting for Britton at the foundry. He picked up his lovely new sculpture that they had finished bronzing, called Valkyrie. It isn't exactly finished, it still needs a patina, but he brought it home to see if there was any bronze he needed to smooth down (or whatever it is he does with them).
It is fiesta week in Santa Fe. Fiesta week ends with the burning of Zozobra. I suppose it is similar to any burning man type event, but I was really surprised to see how many extra tourists were in Santa Fe for the fiesta. I doubt that I will be attending, if you haven't figure it out already, I really don't care for crowds. Although, I make exceptions from time to time, it normally has to be something I can't bear to miss. I have been to Zozobra before, but that was back before it was so popular. Basically the burning of Zozobra is the burning of old man gloom. A ritual practiced since ancient times and if you are having a hard year, it does feel damn good to watch it burn. I am not having a bad year, but I could be convinced to attend. I am a great lover of primal rituals.
I actually got into trouble for taking pictures at the Santa Fe museum yesterday. I felt like telling the guy that I had taken pictures at far better museums than that, like the Louvre and the Vatican, but I didn't. Obviously, I know not to take flash photography of paintings, but I wasn't doing that. It was a made up display, with a crucifix over a bed and it made me laugh. Who would want a crucifix over their bed of all places? And yes, I know Catholics who do have crosses or crucifixes over their beds, but I still find it strange and funny.
Obviously, I am in need of some sleep, as I keep babbling on and on. So I will stop now.
