Yesterday, as often happens, I spent a couple hours doing something I had not planned. Let me say for those of you who don't know, I am not a phone person. Some people LOVE talking on the phone, I don't really care for it. That said, I do expect my phone to be working on those rare occasions that I use it. For months my cell phone has been shut off every once in a while by Qwest for some unknown reason, only to be turned back on a couple days later. Today I awoke to my "real" phone having no dial tone, just static and my Qwest cell phone also not working. First I dial the customer service on my Qwest cell phone, only to get a very bad connection with a Sprint representative. Apparently my Qwest service is no longer and has been handed over to Sprint. I am sure I probably got a letter about this and since it came in a Qwest envelope that wasn't a bill, I threw it away thinking it was some solicitation for new services. Still, only a few days ago Qwest had called me three times leaving messages that my phone bill was 2 weeks late, but they can't call to let me know that my cell phone is going to be cut off because they are no longer handling it? Obviously I got no help from the Sprint guy who only pointed out that I didn't have a Sprint account. Being unable to call Qwest I went online to their live chat. The guy there tells me that my bill is paid and there is no order to shut off my home phone and he has no idea why it isn't working, I will have to call the regular customer service, or put in a service order at the website. I try to put in a service order at the website, but none of the links are clickable, they should be, but they aren't. At that point I am completely fed up! I get in my car and drive to T mobile, where I spend almost 2 hours purchasing two new phones (one for me and one for Britton) and getting them all set up.
At this point it is very likely that I will completely cut Qwest off and just have the cell phones. I was already pissed at them for calling me and making me pay my 2 week late bill over the phone with threats of cutting off my home service. I have NEVER not paid my bill. Sometimes they are a week or two late because I hate writing bills and keep putting them off, but they have never once had to shut off my phone because I haven't paid them. The only thing I still need their service for is to receive faxes and I know there is a way to have faxes sent to your email account, I just have to figure out how. Once I do that, it will be goodbye for Qwest.
On the bright side, my new phone is pretty snazzy. Since Britton doesn't use email or anything like that I just got him a regular phone, but mine is a Samsung Blast. It is almost like a sidekick only you don't have to pay extra to use certain services and it was cheaper than a sidekick. It is bluetooth ready (not that I will probably use that), has a camera (unlike Qwest I can use the camera free of charge and send pix to whoever I want or put them in an online album), it has email, text messaging and tons of other cool stuff. Still it was an expensive day and I am about $300 poorer than I was before.

Lesley, sorry to read you had troubles with Qwest. You sound as ticked off as I was with Comcast. I had them for MANY years for TV and internet. But in the last 8 months of HELL with Comcast, we FINALLY had it and switched to over to Qwest DSL, landphone (which I've had since 1988) and DirectTV service to be all on one bill for about 100.00 a month. This move saved us over 40.00 a month and giving us much better service then when we were with Crappy Comcast TV & Internet. I rarely ever use my cell phone and just on the "Pay as you go" plan (something like that) I just have it for emergencies only- like if I am stuck on the highway with the twins etc. Regarding faxes not sure if this will help but check it out:
Internet Faxing & email services
Best of luck to you.
Oh Cindy! You have no idea what I went through with Comcast a few months ago. However, there aren't that many cable/dsl companies that provide service in my area, just comcast and Qwest, so I had to keep them.
As I said I don't really like talking on the phone. So I like all the gadgets on cell phones better than the actual phone. I also have a deaf niece and it is easier to text with her than to talk on the phone.
Thanks for the link! I will check it out!
Oh I hear ya'! I am in the LARGEST city Oregon has - Portland, and we can't even get the faster DSL connection. Qwest offers 1.5Mbss or 7 Mbps but Portland can't have the faster connection-surrounding areas like Aloha, Beaverton etc can but NOT Portland. And it isn't Qwests fault. It has to do with some BS control crap going on. Our only options are Comcast *screw that!* or DSL with Qwest. Other areas can also get fibre optic connection.. via Vorizon I believe.. but NOT Portland. It's the same sort of BS with Walmart. Portland can NOT have a SUPER Walmart due to "corporate" BS ie: Fred Meyers etc - I have to go out past Gresham to shop at a Super Walmart. Oh, and we RARELY use the landline phone with all it's services (voice messaging, 3 way calling, caller ID, call waiting etc). Like you, I can't stand being on the phone.. well unless it's my daughter but that's about it! LOL
I forgot to mention that my home phone is now mysteriously working again today.
