The flats opposite and in the immediate vicinity of the political conference are subject to search orders. The police have the right to search these flats daily without the owners permission. If you aren't in they are allowed to force entry. You are not allowed any guests during the order period. Failure to cooperate or to hinder in any way leaves you open to prosecution. These are privately owned flats, why do we have to put up with this sort of intrusion? If polititions want a conference, then don't arrange it in a built up area. There are plenty of conference centre / hotels out in the countryside in old stately homes etc, wouldn't this be easier to secure and cause less ill feeling. The anti- terror laws have got out of hand. We have less terrorist attacks than we ever had during the years of trouble with Northen Ireland. The police didn't need these powers then, and they don't need them now. The public are already beginning to rebel and now there are areas where the police are so mistrusted that it not safe for them to venture.
