I was here, picking up stories for TDF update at around 7:30 last night when suddenly all the lights went out. Britton flipped all the breakers, still nothing. None of the other houses in our neighborhood are out. Although I am a little ditsy about such things, I was pretty sure that I had paid our bill. So I call PNM and I had paid the bill and after having us flip the breakers again she said someone would be right out. Of all the utility companies I have called PNM is always the fastest and this time was no exception, they were here within about 25 minutes. In the end the guy went up the pole and flipped some sort of switch on a box and everything came back on. He said our box was way old and he would send someone out to replace it.
Now flash back to almost exactly a year ago. All my lights went out in this part of the house only, which included the kitchen. They came back on when Britton flipped the breakers, but our oven/stove never worked again. We never replaced that stove, because there is only the two of us and a burner unit and little convection oven work pretty well for us. We also never removed the oven from the kitchen because it is damn heavy. I normally try turning it on about once a week just to see if it has decided to work, the lights still come on, but nothing heats up. I just checked it a minute ago and it is now working fine.
Isn't that strange that events so similar would happen almost exactly a year apart, especially since nothing weird like that happened between those times? This is my post from Nov 30th, 2006, I didn't mention the lights going out, but since they came back on after the breaker was flipped maybe I didn't think it was a big deal.
It gets a little stranger. That damn noise was back. Those of you who have been reading my blog a while know what I am talking about. For others, it is a noise that sounds somewhat like a plane, it comes from the sky, but there is no plane visible and the sound doesn't pass like a plane does, it goes on for sometimes up to an hour. It was really loud last night when we were out walking the dog. This was several hours after the electricity went out, so I can't really say the two things were related, but it did seem a little weird to me.

That's all very weird. I keep hearing a strange rumblng noise at night that goes on for hours. Then again, I live within 1 km of the city centre and the railway station, and about 2 km from the docks, so there's probably a mundane explanation. I also hear a light aircraft circling around for hours, but I wonder if it's something to do with law enforcement. The thing you heard is odd, though, as it seems to stay in the one place. Keep us posted of any further developments!
I think the noise has something to do with Kirtland AFB. I only live a couple miles from Coyote Canyon and Manzano mountain. I have no clue what it is, unless it is an invisible hovering aircraft.
