Not much going on.
Still suffering with the tooth problem. My appointment isn't until the 24th and I can honestly say I have never looked so forward to a dentist appointment in my life. I really can't say that the penicillin has helped very much, if at all. Also, Vicodin isn't all it is cracked up to be. It doesn't seem to work much better than taking 3 Advil.
It is cold here tonight so I am hoping that along with the Vicodin will make me sleepy since I don't feel like doing anything other than sleeping. I would be happy to sleep through until the 24th if I could.

Your antibiotics got rid of the infection but if you still have horrible pain the problem is at the nerve. Drugs don't work at the nerve like they would elsewhere in your body.
Get yourself a toothpick. Load it up with toothpaste (something about the size of a cooked pea) and put it directly in the area you're dealing with. Even push it a little down the gum line if you can. Your mouth will water so spit but gently as to not spit out the toothpaste. The pain should be gone in about two minutes.
I say toothpick instead of Q-Tip because you want to get it in as close as possible to the pain.
Your pain will go away or subside tremendously. It wears off about an hour or so, so just have your toothpaste ready to do it again throughout the day.
Toothpaste directly on the area reduces dental infection, pain, and suffering and I'm surprised your dentist didn't mention it to you because from your description you definitely are at the nerve and that dentist appointment should not have been placed so far in advance.
I have dealt with periodontal disease since 1987 so I've been where you're at more times than you can count. I still have my teeth though. Will probably have to swing for dentures when I'm 60 (3.5 years from now)
White pasty tooth paste works best since it sticks better than the green foo foo toothpastes.
By the way, I've had two root canals and they were pain free excluding the shots. The main object of a root canal is to remove the nerve. No nerve no pain. From my two experiences and from what people say about root canals that have never had them make them sound about 98% worse than they really are. A root canal is less painful than having a tooth pulled, you're just in the chair longer is all. I say that because I'm sure that's his recourse based on your last two posts about this and your specific pain.
Bummer -- teeth are the worst. I'd have taken better care of my own iff'n I knew I was going to live this long... [g].
According to my dentist the pain is due to the fact that I need a deep root cleaning. I think the appointment was so far in advance because he wants to make sure any infection is cleared up before digging in there.
I have had a root canal before, it really wasn't any big deal. I have also had a deep root cleaning -- it is much worse. I would have rather needed a root canal.
So far today I have just had soreness and none of that razor sharp pain, so maybe the penicillin is doing something.
