Ufology--the good, the bad, and the ugly--is now for all intents and purposes electronic.

Young people are interested, but if you want their attention put it on a Web site, in a blog, or on Twitter and Facebook.

MUFON, stuck in its 50s-model incarnation of holding conferences in musty hotel meeting rooms, is going the way of the dodo. No big surprise there.

There are many reasons people don't go to conferences. For myself, 1) normally they are at least a couple hundred miles away and I hate driving 2) they start too early in the morning 3) some of them are pretty expensive to attend, especially if you have to travel and stay at a motel too 4) everyone who speaks at them can be heard for free on dozens of podcasts, not to mention that they normally publish their research to a blog or website.

Other than the fun of hanging out with friends -- I can't imagine why people would go to conferences.
