Ghosts and Cold

I just finished watching and writing about the upcoming episode of Ghost Cases, you can read about it here.

It is 16 degrees here tonight (-9 c). It reminded me of one of the scariest nights of my life. Probably happened about 15 years ago (before cell phones). It was winter and Albuquerque had been hit with a huge snow storm. With wind chill it was -20 f (about -29 c) the coldest I can ever remember it being. I had got off work at about 9 pm. The freeway was clogged and moving at a snail pace and my heater was hardly working, my legs were shaking so hard that I was having a hard time controlling the car pedals. Although I was wearing a good coat, I was also wearing a skirt and very thin shoes. I got to the freeway exit to my house, pulled off the freeway and my car went totally dead. I managed to roll it to the side and then I tried and tried to get it started, but it was useless. The snow is like a foot deep, it is freezing cold and I am still about 1/2 a mile from my house and there is NOBODY in sight, apparently they had closed the freeway and I was one of the last to get through. I live in a somewhat rural area, so any houses were almost as far as my house since I am in the first little "neighborhood." I sat there in the car and cried for several minutes because I realized the only thing I could do was to walk home and I wasn't sure with my thin little shoes and pretty much bare legs if I could make it. I had walked only about 10 feet when a sheriff in a 4-wheel drive blazer seemed to appear out of nowhere and gave me a ride home. Maybe some would think that is coincidence, but if you consider how much territory the east mountain sheriffs have to patrol I think it was a miracle -- esoteric at the very least.
