Reminds me of that great Arthur C. Clarke novel, "Rendezvous with Rama", wherein a gigantic spacecraft passes through the solar system and earthlings set out to meet it. Turns out it's fully automated and is passing near the sun to "refuel". The alien race that built and operates the craft has no interest in Earth or our solar system and the craft's mission lies elsewhere. It's a reminder from Clarke that we're not the center of the universe and an alien race may well find us insignificant and not worthy of contact.
