Werid Electricity and Synchronicity Again

Some may remember, but on Nov 30, 2006 I had a weird electrical event that happened here at my house. The main problem was that after that my oven/stove would not work again, we figured that was just because it is really old and it couldn't handle an electrical surge or whatever had happened. That was no real problem for us, there are only 2 of us and we easily got along with a little convection oven and hot plates, but we never bothered to get rid of the oven because we figured we would do that when we bought a new one, which although we planned to do it, we never got around to it. Exactly one year later, all the electricity in our house went out again, only this time flipping the breakers didn't work. We called the electric company and after checking it they said the switch on our pole was really old and they replaced it. Everything came back on, including the oven that hadn't worked in a year.

On January 10th, 2009, we went to Seattle for about a week. When we came back the electricity in our "office" was no longer working, we flipped breakers and all of that, but nothing helped. Eventually we had some electricians out, but they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it either. So last summer we had some new electrical lines put in so we could at least plug in a few things in there. Last night, Jan 7th, not precisely one year later, but close enough - I went out the door of that office to the old front porch (from before we added the addition). Almost every night I go out that door and I flip the switch for the porch light, out of habit because it hasn't worked since the electricity in that room went out. Same thing last night, I flipped the switch and as I was turning the knob for the door I thought how stupid that was because the light doesn't work, but when I got the door open the porch light was shinning away. I also tried all the outlets in that room and they all now work fine. Nothing has happened, no switches have been flipped - they just decided to work again for no known reason, almost exactly a year later.

I am not saying this is paranormal, but it is very weird - at least to me.

You should get an electrician out there to check everything out. You don't need a fire.

Troubleshooting electrical is the hardest thing to test because it's subject to inside and outside hot and cold temperatures.

Car mechanics will attest to that. You can have an electrical problem that they flat cannot find because it only occurs when your motor/exhaust, etc get to a certain temp. They many times have difficulty finding a problem because when they turn the car off to test for shorts the car starts to cool below the temperature it was at when the problem appeared. And then the same thing can happen in cold temps too.

This same scenario applies to your home due to outside and inside temps.

Shorts can still have a connection in one temp but no connection in another.

Then there are partial shorts where only part of the line is damaged, which would make for an on again, off again situation like your porch light.

Visualize a rubber band that someone put a match real close too. It didn't break but it's partially damaged.

This is also why troubleshooting electrical is so expensive. They have to be there at the right temp. Your problems are in the cold so that trouble shooting has to be done in the cold weather and not warm or hot.

Another example of this is a battery. Most all batteries for cars and motorcycles are sold when there is a drastic change in outside temperature from cold to hot or hot to cold. Screwy huh? Very, very true.

I sold batteries at my motorcycle shop and you see it happening due to the numbers on given days that recently experienced a drastic hot to cold or cold to hot day. I say drastic because it doesn't happen when the transition from cold to hot or visa versa is casual, just when it's drastic.

Just the same, you don't need a fire and there's a chance have a short or short(s) in your walls.

Also, if you have problems in the summer time too - then you may have a short or shorts that are troublesome on hot days.

Electrical sucks plain and simple.
