About 10 or so years ago, US Space Command actually posted online updates on its estimate of how many terrestrial objects were orbiting the earth (including defunct satellites, ejected boosters, dropped spacewalk tools, etc.). The number was pretty staggering even then. The last time I checked the site back in the very early 00s, it was over 9,000. This number is no longer posted publicly anywhere that I can find. However, it likely has increased geometrically to a sum that would leave us all gasping.

Some "UFO" sightings (and more recent purported crashes) might well be connected somehow to our orbiting trash dump.
