I've not read the book, but am aware of his theory, which I don't dispute.
But as to Egypt's predecesser perhaps being the beginning of civilization, the discovery of Gobleki Tepe in southeastern Turkey, which dates back to the end of the last ice age (10,000 to 13,000 years ago) puts the origins of civilization much farther back in history than ancient Egypt and its immediate predecessors.
