Nick Pope's retainer to the paper must be a large enough cheque to waft away the embarrassment at being associated with all the hyperbole. That's no criticism, I'd also take the money and ignore the toe-curling discomfort at these OTT articles.
Highly ridiculous replaces high strangeness, but I bet a few people are drawn to 'the field' from these reports. The images alone are worth the effort of digesting the melodramatic language!

Strikes me the same as Kandinsky, as either unintentionally kitsch, or a overblown self parody.
