Over at Cryptomundo Loren asks What Are The Top Cryptozoology Holiday Gifts For 2011? A word of caution, be careful what gifts you choose for children. I know this from experience because I have twice made a mistake. When my niece was around 5 years old I bought her some sort of Loch Ness Monster children's book for Christmas. When I talked to her on the phone after Christmas she made a point of telling me that she didn't believe in the Loch Ness Monster and I could tell by her voice that although the monster in the book was nice, it had kind of scared her. I told her that such things don't exist except in books, which I know could be a lie, but it seemed to make her feel better.
Also, when my nephew was around 3 or 4 years, thinking all little boys love dinosaurs I bought him a really neat one that growled, swished it's tail and opened a closed it's mouth. He was terrified of it and burst into the tears immediately after I turned it on.
Nothin' like Auntie scaring all the kids at Christmas time! :-D
So I am probably not going to buy cryptozoology gifts for anyone, except myself. I already bought myself Paul Trout's book Deadly Powers: Animal Predators and the Mythic Imagination.
And the Christmas Bigfoot ornaments were a birthday gift from someone!
