Help!

Very happy the hard week is over for me and now I can get back to simple things like this blog!

Speaking of which, years ago when I started doing this I had about 25 blogs bookmarked that I checked by going to each site daily.  Over the years that list has grown incredibly and I use google reader.  The other day, google informed me that the reader would be discontinued in July.  I very much need to find another reader - any suggestions?

Hiya Lesley, it's a pity google won't just leave it all alone. It was bad enough when they got rid of the 'follow' button in blogger and now this?!

There are 8 alternatives in this link >> http://www.extremetech.com/computing/101011-6-google-reader-replacements

The one that catches my eye is 'Feedly'for Firefox >> http://www.the-digital-reader.com/2013/03/29/how-to-make-feedly-look-more-like-google-reader/#.UVbQ1xxxGPI

The 'Feedly' one is apparently already loaded with your subscriptions as soon as you install it - sounds promising.

To be on the safe side, it's probably a good idea to save all the links on a word document or pdf until the best app can be relied on.

Feedly sounds good, but I mostly use Chrome. I will check out the others. Thanks for the links!

I've been using both Feedly and Bloglines but mainly on an Android tablet, not a PC. Between the two apps I like Bloglines a lot better because with its interface it's easier to save pages on my tablet. You could try a few URLs with Bloglines and see if you like the interface better for what you're doing. I used Bloglines before but at the time Google Reader was better. Bloglines format has been updated and it is better, offering different options for viewing your feeds.

I'll also try bloglines - thanks Ray.

I've been testing Feedly and it looks good BUT I can't find a way of removing feeds. Some old blogs have been jacked by Russians and they clog up the feeds.

Neither does it have a list of the sites I follow to see what they posted lately. For example, I visit Andrew May's Fortean blog every Sunday and it isn't showing up.

I've only been tinkering with it for a half hour or so and might discover these problems are mistakes on my part.

I don't like the lack of a blog list on Feedly either. I understand the concept of only blogs with new posts showing up, but I like to be able to see all posts. Also, aside from blogs I have things like my local news feeds. Those showed up, but then totally disappeared before I had the chance to read them - which was just weird. I am going to try bloglines and see what it is like.

Bloglines is a lot more like google. The main problem is there doesn't seem to be a way to import google reader links, so they all have to be added individually. That should keep me busy until July when google reader is discontinued. :-D
