Any astronomer who claims to be unable to tell the Moon from a “UFO” on national television, (ABC’s UFO’s: Seeing is Believing) doesn’t command much respect in my book. Come on, she could have used Venus, like the rest of 'em.
Perhaps I was a tad callous in that last comment. I did not mean to say she is unaccomplished. On further thought, I wonder why someone with her extensive background would make such a remark. Perhaps it is an admission under duress (ha!), I don’t know. It seems rather abstract to me. If I asked any astronomer if they ever mistook the moon (or even Venus) for a UFO, I think I would get a pretty cold reception. Every time I hear her name now, I think of that remark.
Gary, you weren't callous, you were right (as well as funny.) Tarter and all of SETI -- feh! I say. I started to write something about this on my blog, but decided it's too nice a day to sit here and bash silly SETI. Silly, indulgent smug SETI.
Have you read any of Stanton Friedman's views on SETI?
Hello UFO bits, I remember Stanton Friedman and Seth Shostak's debate on C to C. Not a shinning moment for Seth, who sounded like a spoiled brat who had his toys confiscated.
