Hookin' up with HD

I spent a couple hours yesterday hooking up our new HD DVD player. Hook up was easy enough, the extra time was spent figuring out how to get the sound to work with my existing speakers. I really didn't want to have to buy a receiver, not only because of the money, but also because I have nowhere to put it. As with most things like that I found that once I made myself actually get away from it and could think more clearly the answer came to me. It was an easy answer, I hadn't pushed the input button on the DVD the speakers are connected to. Duh! So it is all set up and working fine now.

Why HD and not BluRay you may be wondering. Plain and simple, BluRay is more expensive and Amazon had a deal on the HD that I couldn't pass up. For $133 I got the Toshiba HD-A3 720p/1080i HD DVD Player, two free HD DVDs with it, 300 and The Bourne Identity and a mail in rebate thingie for 5 more DVDs completely for free. If you consider that HD DVDs are normally at least $20, I received more in free DVDs than what I paid for the player. I also am an Amazon prime member so it was all shipped two day for free. The price on player looks to have gone back up to $179, but they are still running the rest of the deal. I bought a couple new HDDVDs too. The awesome special edition 5 disk set of Blade Runner and I'll admit it -- the latest Harry Potter.

I didn't watch the entire movie, but Blade Runner looked fantastic! The sound quality would probably be better with a receiver, but it is fine for me as is.

Still would like to make room for a receiver and a BluRay player too, but that will take some figuring out and a extra cash as well.
