For those of you that haven't noticed there is an interesting conversation taking place in the comment section of Joseph Capp's UFO Media Matters, on his new rules post. Actually, it did get me to stop and think about whether I should link to certain sites.
There is All News Web, which you may have noticed that I do link to sometimes because it is sooooooooooo ridiculous that it is funny. I also link to Weekly World News, home of Bat Boy. However, after thinking on it -- I have decided to stop linking to ANW, but not WWN. There is a difference, everyone knows that WWN is just for fun, they don't try to pretend that are a serious news outlet, with photoshopped images of Sarah Palin with Bigfoot, bat boy and so on, it is obvious. On the other hand, ANW does try to pretend it is a real news source and is making money off advertising by doing so. I know that 99% of people that visit my site know that ANW is full of crap, but why give them more hits and maybe more advertisers?
Let me make clear that I don't think that such things really harm Ufology. I think the MSM has made up it's mind (with a few exceptions) and whether it is a legit research piece (or case) or something from ANW makes no difference to them. However, I do think there are real Ufology researchers that deserve to be making the advertising dollars that sensationalized crap is making and that is what irritates me.
I don't know why I didn't snap about that before because at Beyond the Dial there are sites I won't link to in the news section. Mostly blog talk radio sites that opt to have that video ad that you have to watch before being allowed to enter their site. I realize that there are some that need to make money off their podcast or whatever, but it is never cool to make people watch an ad to enter your site.
Oh, I will also still link to India Daily articles because most of their ET/UFO stories are presented as speculation/theory and really not much different than a lot of what Richard Hoagland says. Also, if you check India Daily there is actually real news there aside from the ufos stuff. :)

I wonder why you don't link project camelot. Here's there latest and it's near 3 hours long. I recommend it but don't agree with the conclusion the guest comes to.

I do link to Project Camelot at Beyond the Dial -- whenever they send me an email about a new episode. I don't know if they have quit sending those out or what, but I haven't got one in a while.
Bravo on your decision. All news Web is just crap, and I wish more bloggers would drop it.
I have my doubts about The Examiner as well. I found errors in one UFO story. I intimately know the geography of the sighting location, and the geographic references in the story were dead wrong. In my mind that casts doubt on the truth of the story and Examiner UFO reporting in general.
Some Examiner articles are better than others. The problem is that I don't have enough time to actually read every article I link to, so I have to quickly scan through and try to decide if they are crap or not. Most times lately I have just skipped them.
