Hi Jack...You're doing it wrong...

UFO Magazine - UFO Magazine Blog - Hi Jack...You're doing it wrong...

Our relatively little and generally viewed as insignificant field seems to be looked upon as for what it is thus far by our own making: marginal, cable channel entertainment for geeks and unfounded in the eyes of accepted science. The field of Paranormal Study in it's many camps and subcategories before it gets the respect from the outside it so desperately cries for must earn these by coming together on the commonalities of view, stop with the inane holding of secrets to further a book and stop the stupid bitching and griping for Pete sakes! It must get over itself because as it is, it certainly isn't the bag of chips that some purport it to be. Until then, the outside will continue to view it as over muscled idiots and plumbers wielding misused tech and tinfoil hats with cameras on tripods in Americas Southwest Deserts rubbing crystals and waiting for an official communique from Ashtar Command.
Unfortunately this is how we in the Paranormal are viewed in general by the rest of the "normal" world and we did it to ourselves.

I already commented on the presumption of innocence part at UFO Mag blog, so now I will comment on the above.

While I can see where Erik is coming from in a way and I have seen similar posts from many others over the years - I still don't agree.

First, why should we care how we are viewed by the so-called rest of the normal world?  Let's not forget that most of the world atrocities (like wars and slavery) were thought to be good things by the majority of the normal world.  Sure those opinions change over time, but normally only if they are directly affecting the majority.

Secondly, I don't believe that if all the woo-woos disappeared tomorrow it would make the so-called normal world anymore interested in paranormal study than they are now.  Scientists are not going to be leaving their good paying jobs to study the paranormal and/or UFOs.  Most people simply are not that interested, other than in an entertainment scifi movie type way and they never will be.  Yes, those opinions change when someone is directly affected, when they have some sort of profound paranormal experience, but it is rarely changed by anything else.  I am not sure it even should be.  Don't most normal people have enough to think about - paying the rent, kids, jobs and so on?  So maybe paranormal/ufos should be left to those of us that aren't the normal people because we are the only ones willing to waste our time thinking about things that will make us absolutely no money and that we are unlikely ever to get a conclusive answer to.  You have to be a little crazy, a little woo-woo, normal doesn't cut it. :-D

UFO Mag Columnist is an Insult To Readers

The title of the column was strange I thought after reading it, it really didn’t seem to “fit” a serious publication on UFO research, but sometimes the title is to get the attention of the reader and it certainly did its job there and at least one word did correlate with the cigarette hanging out of the side of Ms. O’ Lavery’s clown painted, rose red lips.
Wow!  I honestly don't get this dude's outrage, but at the same time I find it hilarious!  Of course, maybe that is because I also smoke, drink wine, wear lipstick and have been known to use foul language quite often.  Knowing a lot of people in UFOlogy - I don't think any of that is uncommon.  OK, maybe the lipstick since UFOlogy is made up of mostly men.

At least he didn't mention the nose piercing, another thing Deirdre and I share, along with Regan.

Let me just say that UFO Mag has many columnists.  A columnist is someone that shares their opinion (not necessarily research) and UFO Mag tries to cover opinions of all kinds.  If you can't stand that someone has a different opinion than you do -- you shouldn't be reading UFO Mag or at least not the column that offends you.

It is well known and I probably don't need to mention it, but many of the greatest writers throughout history have used foul language.

Deirdre - you know I love you!  We don't always agree, but the cigs, wine, red lips and foul language make you irresistible!  xoxo!

Stuff

The offending site has finally stopped hotlinking my forum - I mean the UFO Mag forum.  I am not sure what did it, maybe contacting their host, maybe the note I added to the top of the homepage so that everyone viewing their site knew they were stealing or possibly something totally different.  Still, due to the fact that they tried to ignore me and removed my polite post from their fb group page without answering it - I will leave my note up for a couple more days, just in case, because obviously I do not trust them or him (whatever).

Just so you know, I am hoping to skip out of town for a bit next week.  I will have my iPad with me, but will not be updating this site with news.  If things work out, I will be in one of my fave (if not my #1 fave) place in NM, Jemez Springs.

Again - Hotlinking is Stealing!

I don't want to give the url (why give them any hits?), but a certain site is hotlinking the entire UFO Magazine forum.  They are mentioned below so you can google them if you wish.  You can read about the questionable nature of these people at the forum, in this post.  They do not even post anywhere to contact them by email on their website, not that I can't figure out why.  So I left a message on the facebook fan page, simply saying "please stop hotlinking the UFO Mag forum."  It was removed and then I noticed this post on the website:

The Intelligence community, the Government and some other web sites have threatened us and told us to take some of the information on this sight down. We not only refuse but believe that the interchange of free ideas is crucial and protected by the Constitution of the United States of America. We will continue to bring you the latest in UFO / Alien news as well as update our extensive video library.

Sincerely,
the Staff at Northwest UFO Chasers

Yes, as if there is anything on their site that can't be found elsewhere on the internet -- totally for free.  Sorry, but I just do not see stealing from other sites as any great service to anyone, except maybe themselves to help attract people to their site.  I see not one original thing on the entire site, but they do want you to buy UFO products at their UFO store (maybe that is the original thing?).  So they use other people's content to try to attract people to their site to buy their products.  Nothing new there, every huckster on the internet has already tried or is doing that.

Obviously, if they really only cared about people reading our forum they would have an RSS feed that linked to our site.
