Underground Alien Bio Lab at Dulce!
I wrote that post below and almost totally forgot my good news of the day. Underground Alien Bio Lab at Dulce is out. I got my copy in the mail yesterday! Yes, if you squint you can make out my name there at the bottom along with such cool people as Tim Beckley, Sean Casteel and Dr. Michael Salla.
No relation to Phil Klass!
As most know, I am kind of a stats junkie when it comes to this blog. So there I was looking through the stats and I see a click that came from a message board and I click the link to see what was being said. It started out well enough, it seemed that someone read last week's Grey Matters and enjoyed it, but then I come to a comment that says - she sounds like a true sceptic. Huh? However, nothing could prepare me for a comment after that. I am used to maybe being called a woo-woo and such things as that and at this point such comments don't really bother me. If it had been something like that it would have been OK, but it wasn't. IMO, it is the worse insult I have ever read about myself. This is what is said:
"Maybe it's a daughter of Philip Klass?"
WTF ? ! ? !
I have no earthly clue how someone could read that Grey Matters and think that I am a skeptic, never mind a slimy hateful debunker like Phil Klass.
One of two things happened --
1) I did not make my point at all and was totally misunderstood, or
2) People did not actually read the column and commented on it anyway
This is the part that was quoted at the site -
Lastly, just like the Dulce base, it doesn't matter if your theories are real or not. Strange shit happens. Strange shit that doesn't fit into your box. It will happen that way no matter what theory you believe in or how strongly you defend it.
I certainly don't see anything skeptical in that, but maybe that is because I wrote it and knew what I meant.
Am I a skeptic and what is a skeptic? I know UFOs exist because I have seen them. I also am sure that not all of them are secret military craft or of this planet, dimension - whatever. I am skeptical when people are so sure they are one thing or another - aliens, demons, time travelers and so on, none of those theories are totally proven to my satisfaction and I believe there could be one than one answer. I have an open mind that they could be aliens (or whatever else), but I would never argue that point with someone. So I guess if that is skeptical, maybe I am skeptical, but I am not a debunker like Phil Klass.
Update: Read the comment section. My sense of humor failed on that one, it is hard to know if people you don't know are joking, but apparently they were.

Non-esoteric, health related post
This has nothing to do with anything esoteric, but it is something that I want as many people to know as possible -- please, do not ever let anyone operate on your back, especially if they want to "fuse disks." I have a facebook friend who is having back problems and maybe thinks that will be the solution. Needless to say that I already emailed her begging her to make sure she thinks carefully and explaining what I know.
What I know is that my sister and several friends of mine have had this operation only to actually get worse. In my sisters case, it took what seemed to be a perfectly healthy woman, crippled her to where she could barely walk and after that surgery (actually two because the first didn't work) she started developing health problems she never had before and eventually she died at a young age. Now I can't directly connect her health problems to those surgeries, but I know she didn't have them before the surgeries. At the very least, she ended up in more pain than those that didn't have the surgery and as I already said, she could hardly walk.
In the 6 or 7 people I know that had such surgery only one claims that it made her better and she was only 18 years old. I think the body heals better when you are younger. Whether that is the case or not, 1 person out of 6 is not very great odds.
So if you have back problems and are told you need surgery or someone you know or love is, think long and hard, ask the hard questions of your doctor. You will be in pain and likely to agree to anything, but please do as I ask and do some research.
Those I have known that didn't have surgery have ended up in better shape than those that have, so although there is pain, realize that it could actually be worse. I have some friends whose pain led them to choose surgery even though I begged them not to do it, now they wish they had listened to me.

Thrift Store Treasure
Yesterday sort of started out as a bummer. I woke late and realized it was Saturday and I was missing Sister Wolf's fundraiser. Really I had missed it because it was 2:30 and it was only going on until 3. Later after I woke up some, I decided to go grab some Greek take out food to cheer me up. Britton decided he would go with me and we should stop at the Animal Humane thrift store on the way. I came home with not only my Greek food, but a stack of esoteric/ufo books that were only .50 each.
The Uninvited by Nick Pope
The Search for Bigfoot by Peter Byrne
UFO the whole story by Coral and Jim Lorenzen
The UFO Experience by J. Allen Hynek
We are not the first by Andrew Tomas
I also got Dr Mack's book and Charles Berlitz's Bermuda Triangle book. Those two I may already have somewhere because I know I have read them.
Not a bad day after all.

Celebrity Death Day
Since I know the news and almost everyone else is focusing on Michael Jackson -- I would like to mostly talk of Farah Fawcett. I was very impressed with Farah's bravery in fighting her cancer and the way she seemed to never give up. I am pretty sure that gave her a couple extra years of life that she would not have had if she just accepted what the doctors told her. The battle was ultimately lost, but I think she still inspired millions of people that are facing (or will face cancer in the future) with her stubborness and dignity. Kudos to her! Wherever she is, she is now free of all pain and burden.
I think I will leave it to Michael Jackson's fans to speak about him. Likely I would only get myself into trouble. I will say this though - I would like to have the real news back.

The Green Trend
I have noticed something strange the past couple days, many of my twitter friends have gone green. Nope, I don't mean in a tree hugging way - I mean they have tinted their profile photos green. Just to name a few -- Alfred Lehmberg, Whitley Strieber, Neil Gaiman and Teresa Thurmond Morris, but there are many more. What does it mean?!!? I feel so left out. I am going to have to make my own green photo now.
For those of you that have been keeping up on my weird electricity related problems over the years, I have a new post at LOWFI - Electrical Current where it shouldn't be. Yesterday we discovered electrical current in the glass of my kitchen window and on the outside of cinder block, stuccoed walls. Very strange.
I also have a new edition of Grey Matters posted at BoA. Just some thoughts on Ufology.

Fed Ex - the worst shipper in the shipping business!
This has nothing to do with anything, other than I need to blow off some steam.
I would rather leave this complaint at the Fed Ex site, but of course they have nowhere to email complaints. Not that it matters if they pay as little attention to those as they do phone calls.
For about the last 2 - 3 years I have had such problems with Fed Ex that I stopped ordering from any company that uses them. However, when you order from a 3rd party at Amazon you don't always think to or have a way to find out what shipper they use.
I knew that my new juicer was suppose to arrive yesterday and when it didn't I checked amazon. To my horror I found that it had been sent Fed Ex. I already knew what had happened, but checked the tracking info just to make sure.
You see, ever since Fed Ex became totally reliant on mapquest or whatever the fuck they use -- I have been unable to get my packages. According to whatever they use, my address is further up the hill at a totally different address, so my packages are sent back as having incorrect address. Most times they don't even call to check the address. UPS uses the same map system (so far as I can tell) and yet their drivers are smart enough to realize that it isn't always correct, especially in this area which is outside Albuquerque. So they actually use their eyes and look for my address and most times find it -- what a novel concept, eh?
I have literally talked to Fed Ex dozens of times, but this information is never ever corrected. Don't they have some way to enter it into their supposedly sophisticated computer system? No, apparently not!
So now I guess I will have to email 3rd parties on Amazon to make sure the DON'T use Fed Ex before I order from them. Such a pain in the ass!

Fictitious
Most of you won't know this, but over at Machine Elf, I have another blog - Fictitious. Over the little time I have had it, it has been a place for me to post my fangirl stuff about my favorite fiction writers -- mostly Neil Gaiman. However, last night a short little fictitious bit came to my mind and I felt obligated to write it down. It is nothing profound, but I was happy that I felt like writing fiction again, even such a short, predictable piece.

TwittaScope
My twittascope for today -
I'll win even if I am wrong! Such power! I will try to use it for good, but power does corrupt.
Your stubbornness can be so intense today that you'll win an argument even if you're wrong. You might choose to disengage from a conflict because you have the ability now to wait out your opponent and can be successful even without direct confrontation. But this kind of victory isn't satisfying and could create an unresolved power dynamic that quickly becomes a real problem unless you are willing to face the issues out in the open.

Nothing much again
It is raining right now. It figures, we just got the swamp cooler hooked up yesterday and now it is pretty much monsoon season. Swamp coolers don't really do any good if it is humid. Not that it matters right now, it is cool enough this time of day. Besides that it has been cloudy and cool for most of June, for NM anyhow, so I didn't really need the cooler hooked up. The really bad part about how cloudy it has been is that it has ruined my chemtrail/ufo watching for the past month or so.
As you could probably tell by the talk of the weather, there isn't much going on around here. Really I should be asleep, but I was writing Grey Matters earlier and then I found quite a few others awake on facebook that wanted to chat a bit. Amazing how the time can slip away doing stuff like that which doesn't seem to be taking that much time. Oh well, it wasn't like I was sleepy anyhow.

C2C Guest Blows It On Patterson-Gimlin
I have to agree with Loren on this. To me, he blew it more in the fact that he was confusing. Just a few moments prior he had sung the praises of the Patterson film, stating that he believed it to be authentic and then he makes the comment about Patterson and Gimlin being pranksters -- Confusing, especially to someone new to cryptozoology, like the guy that had called in.

Nothing much
I actually listened to c2c last night for the first time in ages. Scott Marlowe was on and it was a pretty interesting show. Yes, Noory did ask if dinosaurs still roam the earth. I could have done without Corsi the first hour, but it is my own fault for listening to that.
Other than that, nothing of any esoteric interest going on around here. Thinking of heading to sleep early as I was awoke yesterday by people at my door. Relatives, but I was not expecting them and it threw off my entire day, aside from waking me earlier than normal. It was good to spend some time with my little nephew Ricky though, so I won't complain too much.

BoA Stuff
I have a new Grey Matters up at Binnall of America. It is thoughts on Dulce, cattle mutilations and so on.
Regan Lee has a post about BoA up at WOE. It wasn't until I was reading it that it hit me how many female writers there now are at BoA. With K gone, poor Richard is the sole male columnist. Pretty soon we will have enough women to start our own coven. :-)

UFO or Balloon? And camping.
That is my latest sighting photo, but I think it is highly likely that it was just a large balloon. The wind was blowing in the direction it was following. It was too high up to make out any detail. That is the only good photo I got of it before it disappeared over the mountains. I am not sure who would have a balloon that large, but it did come from the KAFB direction.
Thinking of taking off for some camping and hiking soon. I am going to get out my new tent today and see how easy it is to set up. Hopefully it is easy. It is probably a bit large for 2 people and a dog, since it sleeps 6, but the small tent we used to have seemed far too cozy. I bought this one at the end of last summer for half price! Wish I would have bought some more camping gear when it was on sale, like a couple new sleeping bags and one of those little coleman gas stove thingies. Oh, well.
